Vascular medicine

Welcome to the Clinic of Vascular Medicine.

The treatment of vascular diseases in our Clinic of Vascular Medicine, led by Professor Dr. Sebastian Debus, Professor Dr. Erwin Blessing and Professor Dr. Tilo Kölbel is highly complex and requires an interdisciplinary approach. The life expectancy of patients suffering from vascular disease is limited due to their cardiovascular comorbidity.

In close collaboration with our colleagues from Cardiology and Heart Surgery we provide all our patients with systematic screening of their cardiovascular risk profile.

Only systematic diagnosis and co-treatment of this risk potential can extend our patients’ life expectancies. The treatment of thoracic aorta aneurysms and dissections (type-B dissection) and thoracoabdominal aortic replacement has developed into an interdisciplinary field in which we offer treatment in partnership with the UHC’s Clinics of General and Interventional Cardiology and Heart and Vascular Surgery. The clinic also offers open and endovascular repairs of supra- and infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Our research focuses on clinical studies of quality of life, wound healing and patency rates of different materials. We also focus on the development of new materials for arterial vascular grafts, new minimally invasive and endoscopic surgical procedures and new models of intimal hyperplasia. We are interested in new techniques for wound healing, research of intravascular ultrasound, studies of vascular prosthesis infection, and endothelial research.

Please direct your treatment request to the International Office of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
